## BIG IDEAS
- A reference frame is a perspective from which [[Rest and Motion|motion]] and [[Notes Vault/Physics Notes Vault/Kinematics/1D Motion/Position|position]] are measured.
- There are two types
---
- **Inertial reference frames** are those in which an object not acted upon by forces moves at a constant velocity (Newton's First Law of Motion).
- **Non-inertial reference frames** are accelerating, and within these frames, fictitious forces (like centrifugal force) appear to act on objects.
